FigureFan Classic

Feb 13, 2013:

So, this week I killed the old site. It wasn’t something I wanted to do, but I’ve been meaning to streamline my photo storage and the terrible changes made to that site I used to use was just enough motivation to get me to do it. The old way I had of doing things made it easy for me to use LiveJournal as a launchpad and just copy it over here. The new way is all done in-house now, as I move toward a more self-contained and eventually self-administrated site.

So, farewell FigureFan Classic… It was a good ride.

Jan 6th, 2013:

Just some minor administrative notes: My goal was to finish transferring all the content to FigureFanZero by the 1st of the year and I beat that deadline by over a month. Go me! It turns out that I was able to mesh two of my favorite past times (drinking and listening to Dylan albums) with the mind numbing exercise of copying over and reformatting some 790 features.

So the next sensible question is, how much longer will I keep FigureFan Classic updated and running? Well, right now it’s not bothering anyone and it only takes a couple of clicks to update it, so I’m in no rush to tear it down. However, in the interest of cutting out double work, all links to features appearing on the old site will link to FFZ.

I had hopes of recovering some of the pre-2010 content from Technocothica Toys and including it in this transfer, but it looks like that back up HDD is gone for good. I do have an old computer I was running during that time and it may have the pages cached, but it looks like it will need a new power supply to get it up and running, and I have no patience for that at the moment.

Pardon my dust… This place is under construction.

If you’ve found your way over here from the stale and dank foundations of the old FigureFan site, then welcome! If you’re finding me here for the first time, then you should know that I am in the process of moving, so I need to borrow your van and if you and your buddies can pick up the sofa I’ll try to decide where I’m going to put it. Nope, not there… let’s see how it looks over here. Hmm… put it back in the other corner. No… let’s swing it around and try it this way…

For the time being, I’ll be maintaining both FigureFan Zero and FigureFan Classic. At least until I’m done exporting a little over three years of content here. While I haven’t made any final decisions yet, I will likely be cutting the old FigureFan loose once I’m done with the move. Of course, with nearly 800 entries worth of content, it’ll be no easy task and it’s one that I’m going to be taking on just a little bit at a time. Right now my target date is to be done by the 1st of the New Year, but with how hectic my life tends to become in the dreaded 4th Quarter, that may be an optimistic goal.

In the meantime, feel free to check out the Archives at the old place. The water and power will still be on for a while and I think there are some moon pies in the fridge.
