Doctor Who: 10 Random Thoughts About The Impossible Astronaut

I had every intention of getting another Doctor Who figure review in to round out the week, but alcohol unavoidable distractions tripped me up. As a result, I thought I’d just punctuate the week with some random thoughts about the Series Six premier episode, The Impossible Astronaut. Overall, I enjoyed it, or at least I started enjoying it about 10 minutes into it. I didn’t want to do a review proper, since it’s one story and I haven’t seen the second part yet. So here we go…

  • Moffat, knock it off with “killing” and then “unkilling” the Doctor or dipping into the “OMG, he’s going to regenerate, oh wait, no he’s not” pool. You cheapen things so much when you do this, and it’s a terrible way to start a Series.
  • Matt Smith is still amazing as The Doctor.
  • So these guys are The Silence? Really? Seems kind of anticlimactic.
  • Rory is so awesome. For the love of god, give him more lines and don’t kill him off again.
  • How is William Morgan Sheppard still alive and looking so good? He’s been old in every movie I’ve seen him in going back for what seems like decades.
  • I thoroughly enjoy when the writers work the whole Doctor who? line into the script, but it should be used sparingly and never… ever… twice in one episode.
  • OMG, they mentioned Star Trek in Doctor Who… THREE TIMES!!!
  • I really hope this story arc is wrapped up in this two parter. I’m not interested enough to see it go on for all of Series Six.
  • Who is River Song? I’m thoroughly convinced that River Song is somehow a physical manifestation of the TARDIS. I know I’m not the only one to put forth this theory, but at this point it’s the only possibility that makes sense to me any more.
  • Ugh, it’s going to be a really long week.

Oh, and Happy Easter!!!

Armada Week Extended

So, obviously the Powers that inexplicably work against me completing a week of Transformers Armada features has struck again. I had to go overnight at work for the second half of this week and it really messed up my sleep schedule along with my everything else schedule.

In the interest of getting through this I’m going to extend Armada week through not only the weekend, but probably the rest of next week as well. So I’ll be back on track on Saturday with a look at one of my most HATED Armada figures of all time. Care to guess which one it is?

Weekend Off

In case you hadn’t guessed already, I’m taking the weekend off.

Not a lot of new acquisitions planned for this week. Not a lot of new stuff turning up around here, so I haven’t been buying much of anything.

So I’m going to dig into the past with another themed week. Tomorrow, Transformers Armada week begins.

Lata,

Matty Day… Pass!

Yes, I didn’t forget that it was a Matty Collector Sale Day today. The two big releases, King Hsss from MOTUC and Vince Clortho from Ghostbusters were both easy passes for me. I was never fond of the King Hsss figure and I really don’t think it translates well to the new style. Nonetheless, he was an important character and I give Matty points for trying, and I’m obviously in the minority since when I checked back later he was already sold out. Vince might have been tempting if I wasn’t looking at paying $30 for him with shipping. As for Evil Lynn and Adora, I was lucky enough to get them the first time around.

I don’t own Count Marzo yet, and I do like the figure a lot, but he’s readily available for less online if you look hard enough, so I’m still waiting to get him.

As for Battle Armor Skeletor… well, that one was really tempting. Ultimately, I decided to save the money and go out and have a steak and a couple of really nice scotches, but he’s still available in case I change my mind. I’m full and a little buzzed right now, so I’m still convinced I made the right choice for now.

Down and Out!

I came down with some bad mojo on Saturday night, from which I’m still trying to recover. I’m not sure what it was, but it landed me in bed all day Sunday. Today I felt well enough to at least sit up and build this…

legpyr1

So, I still owe y’all one more non-Lego, non-Tron entry before I dive back into the Tron and Lego madness, which will likely dominate the rest of the week. I’ll drum up something for tomorrow. Until then, I’m going back to bed to finish up reading Game of Thrones and get myself well enough to go into work tomorrow.

See ya!

Out of Order… Come Back Tomorrow

Ok, so I was all ready with the goodies for today’s post, but a camera malfunction this afternoon prevented it from happening. I’ve been tinkering with the dang thing for almost an hour and I’m still not having any luck, so it’s time to call it quits for the night. And no, this isn’t some flimsy excuse to cover up being at a bar all day. Rest assured, if I can’t get it working again, I’ll dig my old one out of the closet until I can get it replaced, but either way, tomorrow the show will go on.
Not the best way to start out the new month, but it was out of my control.

I should at least take this time to mention that I did pre-order just about every single Thundercats toy and figure that was up for pre-order on one of my regular e-tailer sites today. That’s an entire case of the 4″ figures, one of each of the larger ones, the playset, the small vehicle assortment, and the Thundertank. I also laid down a pre-order for Mezco’s 14″ Classic style Lion-O figure. Too bad we’ve still got a cool six months to wait before any of it shows up. But Toy Fair is coming in just a few short weeks, and I’m anxious to see some better pictures.

Until tomorrow… peace out.

Christmas is almost here… and it couldn’t come any sooner!

It’s Christmas week and I’ll be very happy to see the backside of the holidays. I’m not a scrooge, but this really is a crazy busy time for me and by the time Christmas finally gets here, I’ve pretty much had all I can take. I am looking forward to spending the day with friends and family and seeing the new Doctor Who special, but this week and the week after will still be insane, aggrevating and exhausting, and I’ll be spending as much of my downtime as drunk as I possibly can and probably re-reading my old Deadpool comics, which is something I tend to do every year around this time… don’t ask!

I do hope to keep things rolling along here with business as usual. I do have some new Transformers to look at, and some cool stuff coming in by way of Post, assuming the deludge of holiday mail doesn’t slow things down too much. I’ve got a case of DC Universe Classics figures coming in soon, so get ready for another DC Universe Week and I was actually on board for this month’s MOTU Classics figure over at Matty, so hopefully I’ll have a look at Buzz Off very shortly. I’m also anxiously awaiting word that my pre-order of The Real Ghostbusters Mego-style figures has shipped, as these have been showing at some Ebayers this past weekend.

I wanted to do something cool for Christmas Day and I decided that the coolest memory I have of Christmas was opening up some huge and awesome playset, putting it together, stickering it and having fun. The toy companies seldom make anything like this anymore, but I’ll see what I can do to have something like that to post on the 25th and 26th.

On that note, some of this week may be populated with some quick-and-dirty posts, depending on exactly how much time I have each day. Pretty much everything I look at this week leading up to Christmas Day will be based on a sort of Stocking Stuffer theme. Tomorrow, I’ll be back with a little look at Transformers Legends Sandstorm. And as the week rolls on, I’d like to tackle my last remaining Transformers Animated Deluxe figure, at least one Star Wars Vintage Style figure, and some random stuff thrown in too.

Vacation

I’ll be on vacation for most of the rest of this week. Well, not really vacation, but I’ve got family coming in, so it’s pretty unlikely that I’ll be able to post any updates until this weekend.

I picked up a few things in the last couple days and hoped I would get on with them, but it just didn’t happen. Here’s a taste of the big’un for now.

See y’all Saturday or Sunday.

Back From The Weekend…

Yep, I worked this weekend. I had hoped to get one more post in before the end of July but it just wasn’t meant to be. Wednesday, I’m off, and I plan on hunting for some new Transformers, so either way I’ll be back with something, old or new. I’m probably going to start running through all the Transformers Classics and Universe 2.0 figures in anticipation of the release of the Generation figures.

As expected, I got shut out on Matty’s SDCC stuff. Well, I really only wanted two items. Orko went fast, as expected, while I was in a flippin’ staff meeting at work. The Retro Peter Venkman is still available, but I’m opting to get the whole set in one shot through another e-tailer.

I did manage to secure me a Blaster figure from Hasbro’s site, although it won’t be shipping until next week. But seeing as that was the one SDCC item I wanted the most, I’m cool with that.

Lastly, the new Doctor Who stuff is being released fast and furious. Today I ordered up a couple of the Series 5 figures, Amy Pond and the Ironside Dalek, as well as the SDCC Planet of Fire set with the 5th Doc and The Master. I would have probably ordered more of the Series 5 figures, but at nearly $20 a pop, that’s just too much for any figure that isn’t a must have and Amy and the Dalek are the only two figures in that assortment that I can’t live without. No doubt, the others will be deeply discounted eventually.

That’s all for now, I’m off to have a couple of Scotches and turn in early. Catch ya’ll in a couple of days.

Checking In…

I’d love to be doing it more often than I have been, but life keeps having other plans. Nonetheless, with the SDCC around the corner, and lots of really cool toys hitting the various markets, I’m hoping to have more cause to stop by with updates. Its not like I have a bunch of new toys piling up, I’ve just been busy with other things.

That having been said, I couldn’t resist posting a little teaser of what I found on my doorstep this morning…

Yeah!

I’ve spent the last hour or so opening her up and putting her together and seeing just how many Imperial forces I can cram in there. Needless to say I’m having a load of fun. I’ll be back in a day or so with a proper look, once I figure out if there’s anyway I can photograph it without just standing it on my coffee table. Because it really is that big!
