Yes, folks, today was Matty Sale Day, albeit not a terribly interesting one. Ghostbusters was a no show, although I haven’t picked up any of the Ghostbusters figures in a long while anyway, so that’s fine with me. In the DC Universe, there were two new JLU 3-packs. I’ve collected JLU from time to time, but I think that ship has mostly sailed for me. I was slightly tempted to go for the Jay Garrick/ Alan Scott/ Carter Hall set, but my willpower held out. There was also a Retro Action style Green Lantern. Blah!

Thor: Sword Spike Thor by Hasbro
Thor came out this week on Blu-Ray, and I had a great time watching it again. It also put the Marvel movie figure buying bug in me and so while I was picking up groceries at Walmart this weekend, I went a little crazy with the Thor and Captain America figures. As much as I loved Thor, I really had no intention of buying the figures, but after watching it again this week, I decided that I should at least have a movie Thor figure in my collection.

Young Justice: 4-inch Series, Wave 1: Speedy and Kid Flash by Mattel
Last time we checked out Aqualad and Icicle Jr and now it’s time to take a look at the ketchup and mustard twins. In retrospect, I probably should have split these guys up since they feature the same red and yellow coloring on their uniforms, but then they’re also both dicks toward Artemis when she first joins the group, so I guess they have a lot in common.

Young Justice: 4-inch Series, Wave 1: Aqualad and Icicle Jr. by Mattel
I humbly beg your collective pardons if you’re getting overloaded with my features on DC figures. It wasn’t my intention, but as always FigureFan is about what I’m buying and Mattel’s DC License has been getting a lot of my dollars lately. I begrudginly started watching Young Justice back when it first aired and much to my surprise, I quickly fell in love with it. The animation is amazing, and the rest is a charming mix of great action and really cheesy fun. I’m also pretty happy that the elder Superheroes play a fairly big role in the show. Still, I was really on the fence over whether to collect the 4-inch line. As we’ll soon find out, they aren’t exactly amazing examples of action figure craftsmanship, nor are they anything even close to resembling a good value, but in the end two things won me over. 1) My enduring affection for the Infinite Heroes/JLU line and 2) The Collect & Connect Hall of Justice. Ok, enough rationalizing, let’s look at the first two figures.

DC Universe Classics Wave 17: Star Sapphire Wonder Woman by Mattel
In case you haven’t heard the news, DC Universe Classics is running out of time, at least as a regular retail entity. The line as we know it will expire right around the end of the year with the 20th and final wave, where it looks like it will turn into a Matty Collector online exclusive series. Since Wave 16 was the last one I picked up, that means I’ve only got four left. As many of you know, I usually prefer to pick up these figures by the case, because distribution is so poor and I usually like to build the C&C figure. I’m departing from that for Wave 17, because I really only want half of the figures. I’m not saying I won’t eventually pick up the rest to build the admittedly awsome looking Anti-Monitor, but even still, I just couldn’t get myself to pull the trigger on the whole wave in one shot. So, enough with the preamble, let’s take a look at my first figure from this assortment: Star Sapphire Wonder Woman.

Batman Legacy: Batgirl by Mattel
Ok, time for the last figure in this three figure assortment from Mattel’s Batman Legacy line. Catman was the figure I wanted most in this wave, Batman was the one I wanted least, Batgirl falls in line just under Catman. With so many DC Universe figures under my belt, it surprises me that I don’t already have a Batgirl in my collection. I was tempted to say that I would have preferred the blue and grey suited version, but once I got this one in hand, I found myself pretty satisfied with this Silver Age version. Let’s check her out.

Batman Legacy: Batman by Mattel
There were two figures in the second wave of Batman Legacy that I really wanted. You already saw Catman and, well, Batman here isn’t the other one. I’m not hating on The Batman, mind you, it’s just that I didn’t feel the need to pay a premium for this Golden Age version of Bats. Nonetheless, having to buy him to get Catman and Batgirl isn’t the worst thing in the world, so let’s check him out. This’ll be a quickie, so I can go get some sleep.

Batman Legacy: Catman by Mattel
Mattel’s Batman Legacy line is an offshoot of DC Universe Classics focusing on… well, what else? Batman and all his associates. I wasn’t too keen on the first assortment of figures, but the second wave was an absolute must buy for me, largely because of the figure we’re looking at today. Oh yes, it’s Catman. And while a few years ago Catman was nothing to me but a forgettable fringe villain in Batman’s Rogue Gallery, he’s become a character near and dear to my heart thanks to Gail Simone’s masterful Secret Six comic.

Playmobil: Pirate Camp (#4292)
Last time we checked out the Skull and Bones Pirate Ship. It was a fantastic set, but let’s face it, there’s some extra room on that ship. And that’s where today’s set comes in. The Pirate Camp is actually meant to be set up on shore, tucked away in some hidden cove, but when you break down this set and figures, it really fills out that pirate ship fantastically. Let’s see what we’ve got…

Playmobil: Skull And Bones Pirate Ship (#5950)
Today we’re checking out the one set that convinced me to start buying Playmobil again. When I spotted this big box in the aisle at TRU I almost couldn’t put it down. It was only through sheer willpower that I was able to leave the store without buying it. Of course, that willpower faultered a few days later and I wound up ordering it and the rest of the sets we’ve been looking at online. The Skull and Bones Pirate Ship is a great way to see a lot of what makes Playmobil so much fun.
